Eiffage Construction lays the first stone of an atypical school campus respectful of the environment

Construction Division

In July took place the laying of the first stone of this large-scale project in design implementation operation maintenance (CREM). Located in Mesnil-en-Ouche in the Eure Department in the North-West of France, it is an atypical project : it includes a nursery school, a primary school and a college, as well as a restaurant area. This school campus has also been designed to correspond to the overall environmentally-friendly construction approach of Eiffage Construction and the Group.

Carried out on behalf of the Eure Department, the entire project has a surface area of 7000m². On the ground floor will be the nursery school, the primary school and the restoration area, while the college will occupy the floor. The premises are intended for the students of the region, with the construction of a boarding school of 30 beds within the college, allowing to accommodate the students coming from far.

In terms of architecture, the exterior of the college uses the ITE (Thermal Insulation by the Exterior), which is achieved by the installation of an insulation covered with a finishing coating, here a cladding in fibro-cement. This process makes it possible to limit, by the outside, the thermal transfers between the walls and the inside of a building and is a real energy gain. The other exteriors are made of glazed finished concrete walls. The architectural agency CBA Architecte designed this innovative campus, with Arc Architecture as prime contractor.

Another specificity of this school campus is its design, anchored in the overall environmental approach of Eiffage Construction: geothermal for heating production, solar hot water panels, photovoltaic panels, many facilities and processes have been used to limit the impact of this operation. It is also bio-sourced because it uses wood for its frames and insulation, which will be made of wood fibres.

Laurent Le Mercier, Departmental Inspector, Pascal Lehongre, President of the Eure Department and Jean-Louis Madelon, Mayor of Mesnil-en-Ouche were present for the laying of the foundation stone.
