Built in 1928, this emblematic building of Lille has been reborn today under the name Oceania. Characterized by its 1930s architecture, it has been fully renovated and transformed into a high-end hotel offering 88 rooms, including several suites, a wellness area, two seminar rooms, and a restaurant. Special attention was paid to integrating the building into its urban environment and enhancing its architectural heritage. Subject to the requirements of the Architect of the Buildings of France (ABF), each stage of the renovation was carefully planned to preserve the history and aesthetic of the neighborhood.
One of the project’s most striking challenges was the creation of a swimming pool in the former underground vault. This technical feat required the use of micropiles, temporary metal frames, and new load-bearing structures to ensure the stability of the building while allowing the installation of the pool. This new wellness area, which also includes a spa, a sauna, and a fitness room, will offer future guests a unique experience in a place steeped in history.
The works, managed as a general contractor by the Lille Works & Services teams, mobilized about ten workers on the structural, waterproofing, and external works packages. The project also included the construction of a timber-frame extension on the 4th floor and the elevation of the inner courtyard from the 1st to the 3rd floor.
Carried out in the city center, the project required precise coordination to preserve the peace of local residents and maintain smooth traffic flow — an additional challenge successfully met by our teams.
Congratulations to the Lille Works & Services teams for the completion of this ambitious project!
