Pampi is a particularly isolated village, halfway between the Touba2 and Linguère power stations (an hour's drive from each). Its only school had become dilapidated and had no water or electricity. "Foundation subsidence and cracks appearing in two sections of wall forced the prefecture to close one of the two existing classrooms. We therefore decided to rebuild the village school opposite the existing building and only demolish the old school once the work was complete, during the school holidays," explained Quality, Prevention and Environment Manager Pauline Woiselle. Work began in January 2025, following the Ferlo Loop project.
Our teams put together sponsorship proposals and approached various local companies that had worked for Eiffage Énergie Systèmes on the Ferlo loop project, with a view to building a relatively comfortable and fully functional school. “The ground surveys and plans were carried out by our partners, and we also managed to bring together some of our subcontractors (in civil engineering, painting, and electricity) and suppliers around this project,” said co-project manager Stephen Grassagliata. The new building comprises three classrooms, each measuring 35 m², a larger one measuring 63 m², an office, and a storage room. “One of our partners provided solar panels, inverters, and batteries to power the lighting and two fans per classroom,” continued Stephen Grassagliata. Sanitary facilities (four toilets and two washbasins) were installed and connected to an existing borehole.
At the school's inauguration on 14 October, pupils received textbooks and supplies collected in France from Branch employees. “In addition to distributing school supplies, we carried out other initiatives, such as providing agricultural equipment (grain mills, ovens, etc.) to women's cooperatives to improve their working conditions, and donating soccer equipment to strengthen ties with neighbouring communities,” added Pauline Woiselle.
These varied initiatives, led by Eiffage Energy Systems as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, reflect our Branch’s commitment to acting responsibly and in partnership with the communities affected by our projects.
