Eiffage Métal is assembling the future Colombelles swing bridge (Calvados, France)

Our Eiffage Métal teams are taking part in the replacement of the Colombelles bridge, a strategic structure on the canal from Caen to the sea, for our client Ports de Normandie. The current bridge, which has reached the end of its operational life, will soon be replaced by a new mobile crossing that will also prioritize sustainable transport methods.

Precision manufacturing in Alsace.

Production is currently in full swing at our Lauterbourg plant (Bas-Rhin). Our teams are finalizing the fixed span, which measures 35.2 meters long and 14.5 meters wide. Meanwhile, the impressive 75-meter-long mobile span—16.8 meters wide, 7.2 meters high, and weighing 625 tons—was manufactured in two sections.

On July 29 and 30, due to their exceptional size, these sections were moved outdoors for assembly. In the coming weeks, the mobile span will be fully welded, painted, and equipped.

The next phase, scheduled for early 2027, will be just as spectacular: the spans will be shipped by barge. They will travel a river and sea route from the port of Lauterbourg to Rotterdam, then across the North Sea and the English Channel to Colombelles.

This is a remarkable project that embodies our commitment to sustainable and innovative infrastructure, carried out alongside Eiffage Génie Civil, ETMF, Arcadis, Setec ISM, and Lavigne & Chéron.
