As a major economic player in Occitanie, Toulouse-Blagnac Airport has made the production of local renewable energy a central pillar of its CSR strategy. Since the commissioning this year of the solar canopies on the P5 and P6 eco-parks, the airport has become the leading producer of photovoltaic energy in the Toulouse metropolitan area. With this new ground-mounted photovoltaic plant, ATB is pursuing its ambition: to actively contribute to decarbonisation and strengthen the region’s energy autonomy.

A project led by the company ATB Power

Following a call for proposals launched at the end of 2023, Toulouse-Blagnac Airport partnered with a specialised operator to develop a major photovoltaic project on airport property. This partnership brings together Sun’R, a subsidiary of the EIFFAGE Group, and AREC Occitanie, combining sector expertise with strong regional roots. To drive this shared momentum, the partners created the company ATB Power.

Located in the airside zone, the future photovoltaic plant, with a target capacity of 56 MWp, will make use of aeronautical “unused” land. It will be designed, built, operated, and maintained by ATB Power’s teams. The various phases of the project are scheduled to be commissioned between 2028 and 2029.

A unique pilot demonstrator for a future 56 MWp plant

ATB Power is now launching the construction of a 1 MWp photovoltaic demonstrator, the first step in this large-scale project.

This demonstrator, located on the landside, aims to secure the conditions for construction and operation of the different production sites that will be located airside: regulated access, team training, specialised equipment, simultaneous activities near runways and taxiways, and anti-glare systems. ATB Power teams will be trained to work in this highly regulated environment before the system is deployed on a larger scale.
