APRR partners with the restoration of the Louis Pasteur House in Arbois

Following a major restoration project led by the French Academy of Sciences, the Louis Pasteur House in Arbois (Jura) is reopening its doors to the public. As a sponsoring partner of the project, the APRR motorway network (Eiffage’s motorway concessions) is helping to preserve and promote this exceptional scientific heritage, which is deeply rooted in the region’s history.

Following several years of renovation work that began in 2022, this major institution of French scientific heritage is reopening its doors with a completely redesigned visitor experience, highlighting both the legacy of Louis Pasteur and the major advances in modern microbiology.

The first permanent exhibition dedicated to contemporary microbiology, ‘Microbes: That’s Life!’ invites the public to discover the essential role of microorganisms in our daily lives: health, the environment, agriculture, food and even therapeutic innovations. It also offers food for thought on today’s major scientific and societal challenges, such as climate change and antibiotic resistance.

APRR, a company committed to promoting regional development

Alongside the French Academy of Sciences and the project’s partners, APRR is helping to preserve and bring to life a major part of our heritage, whilst raising its profile amongst the general public. This commitment forms part of APRR’s aim to showcase the cultural and heritage treasures of the regions served by its network, by forging a link between iconic sites and the millions of travellers who pass through them each year.

As part of this initiative, APRR has also refurbished its cultural information boards, the famous ‘brown signs’. To this end, a sign dedicated to Louis Pasteur has been installed on the A39, inviting motorists to discover the Maison de Louis Pasteur in Arbois and the legacy of the famous scientist. This spotlight is further extended by an episode of the hit podcast Panorama: ‘Louis Pasteur’s Forbidden Experiment’, narrated by the french actor Denis Podalydès, and devoted to the scientist’s life and discoveries.

“Motorways are much more than just transport routes: they are also gateways to regions and their histories. By supporting the restoration of the Maison de Louis Pasteur and promoting this site to travellers, APRR is helping to raise awareness of places that tell the stories of the men and women who have shaped our collective heritage”, emphasises Nicolas Cote, Director of Communications for Eiffage’s motorway concessions.
