Eiffage Construction delivers The Hive: a building dedicated to research and innovation in the healthcare sector

Delivered by Eiffage Construction, the project’s general contractor, The Hive embodies a purpose-driven vision: a place dedicated to research and innovation in health, designed with an exemplary environmental approach integrating low-carbon concrete and material reuse, at the heart of the Campus Grand Parc in Villejuif (94).

Located in the immediate vicinity of the Gustave Roussy hospital, The Hive offers nearly 25,000 m² of flexible, modular workspaces designed to accommodate companies of all sizes, cutting-edge laboratories, and coworking areas created to encourage interaction among research stakeholders.

The building’s architecture, designed by Baumschlager Eberle Architects, SAME and BSTLL, stands out with its brick façades forming a honeycomb pattern — a symbol of a collective and connected workspace. At the heart of the project, a three-storey atrium connects the various areas: break rooms, a restaurant, shared meeting rooms, and a panoramic terrace on the 4th floor. These spaces all contribute to fostering conviviality and idea-sharing.

Delivered within an ambitious 27-month schedule, The Hive also stands out for its environmental excellence. The building aims for BREEAM Excellent, WiredScore Silver and E+C- level E2C1 certifications, and has received Eiffage Construction’s internal Final Green Gold label. Nearly 30% of the concrete used is low-carbon, and reuse played a central role in the project: technical ducts reused on site, and an 850 m² site facility built using 70% second-hand materials.

The construction site mobilized more than 270 workers at peak activity, and 31,808 hours of social integration were carried out, resulting in more than 90 contracts awarded as part of the project.

Today, The Hive is preparing to welcome its first occupants — researchers, start-ups, and major groups in the healthcare sector — into an environment designed to promote collaboration and innovation.

Congratulations to all the Eiffage Construction teams and the many contributors involved in the success of this large-scale project, which helps showcase the Group’s expertise in the service of research and healthcare.
