Eiffage Génie Civil has installed the first pile for the new quay at the Port of Matadi.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, our Eiffage Génie Civil Marine teams have installed the first pile for the future quay at the Port of Matadi. This operation marks the commencement of major works for the container terminal renovation and expansion contract, awarded in January 2025.

For this essential stage, our teams mobilized their expertise and adapted methods such as down-the-hole hammer drilling and Symmetrix drilling, which allowed for a successful installation in ground characterized by its hardness and heterogeneity.

This contract, awarded by Matadi Corridor Terminaux à Conteneurs and supervised by the project manager Ingérop, includes:

  • The construction of a new pile-supported quay, 347 meters long by 30 meters wide;
  • Three access gangways, 20 meters wide, across the existing quay;
  • An operations building and a workshop;
  • The refurbishment of 7 hectares of logistics platform, supported by a dedicated on-site concrete plant for the project's needs.

One of the major challenges is the execution of all works while maintaining the existing quay in operation throughout all phases. This project is taking place in a complex geographical environment, with natural constraints related to its position on the river.

Because this project plays an important role in the economic development of the DRC and the Kongo Central province, we are committed to employing more than 90% local workforce, thereby actively participating in skills transfer and on-site training.
