Wafae Slimani, a civil engineer working for APRR in Dijon, has just been doubly rewarded for his suggestions in the 2.0 StartBox ideas box launched last October.
The theme of the competition was "Mobility, en route to the ski slopes". The winning idea selected by 359 voters: dynamic ground marking which uses intelligent pigments and changes colour to indicate disruptions and weather conditions.
"It could also be used for ground signage which lights up when the temperature approaches 0°, warning drivers to slow down," said the winner.
A further improvement to safety on APRR & AREA networks for people driving at night in winter.
A coating which melts snow
Wafae Slimani also proposed the use of coatings which melt snow in order to improve employee and client safety, particularly in sensitive areas (ramps on junctions or bridges).
Test-developed in an American university, the material is 20% steel shavings and carbon particles. An electric source conducts heat to melt snow and ice. This innovative coating came third in the vote.
The "Swiss army knife" app for motorways
Frédéric Paillard, an information systems project manager also based in Burgundy, won second place in the competition with his 2.0 innovation: "the Scout", a support app for APRR’s client community.
Inspired by the development of communities based on information sharing and personal messages (Waze, social media), he has created a free geolocation app which can be used to file and share information on incidents that occur on the motorway network, receive traffic alerts and promotional offers and monitor electronic toll usage in real time.
These winning ideas will be pushed as far as possible along the road to realisation.
