Tours University Hospital: a new extension project carried out on an occupied site

Eiffage Construction has just signed a new design-build contract for the extension and redevelopment of the logistics center at the Tours University Hospital (CHRU), located on the Trousseau site in Chambray-lès-Tours. This project complements the construction of the new Trousseau Hospital, with the aim of modernizing and optimizing the entire hospital logistics chain, while ensuring the continuity of operations on a fully operational site.

The project involves constructing a new building adjacent to the existing one to reorganize several key functions of the University Hospital, including patient logistics, the in-house pharmacy, and the central food production unit, as well as creating a centralized waste collection point. This will improve internal workflows, increase storage capacity, and enhance the overall performance of logistics services.
Conceived as a genuine tool to support the hospital's daily operations, the project incorporates increased automation of internal transport through a heavy automated transport system, in order to streamline traffic flow and secure supplies. The project also includes an extension for office use.

Carried out on an occupied hospital site, the construction will take place in the immediate vicinity of the active buildings and the CHRU helipad, involving strong constraints in terms of safety and coordination, including interruptions imposed during the approach and takeoff phases of the helicopters.

The project is based on a simple and functional design, with a concrete base and a steel frame elevation, adapted to the site constraints and intended uses. The construction site will employ up to thirty workers and will incorporate a professional integration program, with over 7,000 hours of work planned.

Work is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2026, with completion expected in 2028.

A huge congratulations to the teams for this new contract!
