Yousense takes charge of audiovisual and stage design for the Cité de la Musique Simone Veil in Meaux (77)

Since it opened on 8 March 2025, the Cité de la Musique Simone Veil – created from the conversion of Meaux’s former prison – has become an exceptional cultural venue in the town centre. Yousense has played an active role in this ambitious project, drawing on its expertise to design an audiovisual and staging system that meets the site's technical and architectural challenges.

This new Cité de la Musique, located in Seine-et-Marne, combines heritage with modernity. The teams at Yousense were tasked with integrating the audiovisual infrastructure and stage networks, covering in particular the 300-seat main auditorium, the orchestra hall and three rehearsal studios. “Between March 2024 and March 2025, we set up an interconnected network enabling the venues to communicate with one another,” explained project manager Sébastien Gerbi. “Each room can be recorded with optimal sound quality thanks to a centralised technical control room.” This system is designed to meet the needs of both artists and organisers and also incorporates an innovative broadcasting solution.

Innovation is not limited to audio, however: the stage and architectural lighting has been designed to suit every purpose. “Outdoor lighting can be controlled remotely from the control room to suit events such as Pink October,” said Sébastien Gerbi. “Everything can be controlled very easily using a touchscreen tablet.” Inside, the system makes it easy to switch between ‘show’ mode and ‘meeting’ mode, with pre-set sound and lighting settings that make the technology accessible to everyone.

This project was also driven by an aesthetic challenge. “Creating an immersive experience for a concert or a setting suitable for a meeting requires close collaboration with the architect and the client,” emphasised Sébastien Gerbi. “So we made sure that the technical equipment blended seamlessly into each space.” Our experts, in partnership with the architectural firm AA Group, have optimised integration of the lighting, screens, cameras and cabling, with a focus on performance and discretion.

To ensure the project’s success, Yousense brought in a dedicated team specialising in stage work, including two in-house design offices (for electrical and audiovisual systems respectively), a site manager, and specialist technicians. Rigorous checks were carried out at each stage of the project, and preliminary tests were conducted before the equipment was commissioned. This methodical approach enabled our experts to deliver a modern, multi-purpose cultural facility that meets the technical and aesthetic expectations of the local authorities.
